This course is an examination of the bel canto method as taught by my teacher in London, Elizabeth Fleming, whose technique derived from both Lamperti and Garcia. Come prepared to sing and to experiment. The course is designed for those singers who are dissatisfied with their technical approach and wish to examine the bel canto method as it was taught 100 years ago without committing to it. Teachers wishing to upgrade their technical approach to include ideas from the past are most welcome.

An analysis of Fleming's technique is available at the website, www.voicesofsummer.com.

The full course, Voices of Summer, with resume in July of 2025.

Voices of Summer is devoted to the enhancement and perfection of interpretive skills. Bringing vocal music vibrantly to life relies the emotional preparation of the texts related to art song, oratorio and opera. This intensive course asks operatically trained singers to divorce the text from the musical setting provided by the composer, and - using the vocal technical resonance of operative singing - act the texts until a personal connection is formed with the words. This skill amplifies the choices made by the composer, as well as providing an interpretation unique to the individual performer.
