Description

Seiji Ozawa Music Academy was established in 2000 with the aim of fostering young musicians through opera by Ken'ichiro Sato, then president of ROHM Co., Ltd. and Seiji Ozawa. This is an educational project that I launched. A young man who inherited the spirit of Hideo Saito, another teacher who devoted his life to "teaching", whose theory is that "symphony and opera are like two wheels of a car", which is the teaching of his teacher Karajan. It is held as a place to learn with musicians. Every year, young musicians from Asian countries (Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea) selected by auditions at home and abroad form an orchestra, and perform by Seiji Ozawa and Saito Kinen Orchestra members. Under the guidance of the house, while repeating rehearsals with orchestras and singers, the high-level opera "Ozawa Seiji Music Academy Opera Project" with opera singers and directors who are active in opera houses around the world. To create. The Seiji Ozawa Opera Project has been held 16 times so far, with 11 opera works including Mozart: The Marriage of Figaro and Mahler: Symphony No. 2 "Resurrection".

The semiconductor manufacturer ROHM Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kyoto City) and the ROHM Music Foundation, a public interest incorporated foundation, have been continuously supporting this project since 2000. Seiji Ozawa Music Academy is based in Kyoto Kaikan, which was reopened in January 2016, and now ROHM Theater Kyoto, and holds performances in three locations nationwide, including Kyoto. Furthermore, since 2015, we have been holding a free performance of "Opera for Children" for elementary school students in Kyoto.
