Mission Statement & Company History

OUR MISSION: The mission of the Fargo Moorhead Opera is to ignite enthusiasm for opera through brilliant singing and powerful storytelling. We seek to welcome and nurture new and established audiences and to showcase professional artists.

Founded in 1968, the Fargo-Moorhead Opera Company brings high quality opera experiences for any and all members of our community and region.

The current season of the FMO includes three fully-staged opera productions along with the Snowball Gala in December and other events throughout the year. The company also offers educational and outreach activities throughout the region. Our Gate City Bank Young Artists Program for emerging opera singers, performs for over 4000+ students (K-12) in and around the Fargo area as well as presents community concerts and productions throughout the region enjoyed by all ages.

Our North of Normal Chamber series established in the 2017-18 season provides opportunities to bring this dynamic art-form to smaller, more intimate venues as well as allowing us to share a wider range of works from baroque opera to contemporary, experimental productions to the stage.

We are the only Opera America company member between Minneapolis and Montana going east and west; and Omaha and Winnipeg going north and south. We are especially proud of the fact that Fargo-Moorhead is the smallest city in America to host a full-season professional opera company.
