Description

August 1-21st, 2022

As part of the 1st Baroque Vocal Academy from 1.-21. August 2022 there will be several musical themes: operatic arias by Handel and Vivaldi , as well as continuo-accompanied repertoire . We are happy to help with the selection of the repertoire on request.

Fortunately, George Frideric Handel's operas have now found a wide audience and have also found their way into the regular opera business. Handel wrote the singer parts for the most outstanding singers of his time: Senesino, Farinelli, Faustina Bordoni, Francesca Cuzzoni, Margherita Durastanti, Anna Strada del Pò, … vocal agility, sensitive restraint, a perfect messa di voce, sparkling trills, virtuosically decorated Da capi and exciting cadences - all of this also poses great challenges for today's performers.

Vivaldi is in no way inferior to Handel as far as the demanding use of musical means is concerned. Not all of his operas have been edited yet and promise many astonishing discoveries.

On the one hand, vocal baroque chamber music makes vocal demands on the singers that are similar to those in opera. On the other hand, far more responsibility for the composition of the works rests on the shoulders of the singers. Because you have to get by, so to speak, without the supporting timbres of the orchestra and "do everything yourself". Linguistic and musical rhetoric is of great importance here. Exploring them and conquering the freedom to deal with the musical material is a goal that we would like to recommend to our participants. And our wish is to support the young singers in a motivating way.

Therefore, our curriculum is supplemented by lectures and workshops from musicology, performance training, baroque dance and baroque gestures, ornamentation practice and much more in close integration of theory and practice. As part of public concerts, the course participants have the opportunity to present themselves to an audience with an affinity for early music!
