Description

In 2022, Wintergreen Music introduced the LEAD Cooperative – an innovative, cross-disciplinary chamber music curriculum crafted from Wintergreen Music’s rich history of supportive music education with much-needed training for today’s musicians. The LEAD Co-op offers limited spaces in each program in order to provide students with the opportunity to work closely with one another and maximize time with our outstanding faculty. Studies include program-specific classes, one-on-one meetings, cross-disciplinary workshops and masterclasses, and chamber music experience both within and outside of students’ primary discipline.

For years, we have worked closely with our team of faculty, staff and students to make our educational offerings as accessible and inclusive as possible with dedicated scholarships and special funding. We are pleased to share that tuition is FREE, thanks to the generous support of donors and granting organizations!

As a part of the LEAD Co-op's Vocal Program, Wintergreen Music invites four singers to the inspiring Blue Ridge Mountains to polish their portfolio under the guidance of Heather Johnson and additional voice faculty. Singers will participate in masterclasses, coaching sessions, private lessons, at least two performances, and seminars in professional development, networking, and more. They will also participate in chamber music and interdisciplinary project groups, and perform side-by-side with LEAD Co-op Faculty. Students are encouraged to bring opera, oratorio, and songbook repertoire to prepare an audition portfolio to impress.

All accepted students receive FREE tuition. There is also a $65 application fee and a $200 non-refundable deposit, which helps to cover admission to the aquatics center, admission to all Festival events, a Festival t-shirt, transportation from and to the Charlottesville airport, train station, or bus terminal, a meal at a local restaurant, and additional meals and/or afternoon socials with the Wintergreen Music community. Students will be responsible for securing their own housing accommodations and food for the duration of the program. A list of local AirB&B and VRBO will be provided upon acceptance and transportation to local grocery stores will be provided.
