Performance: April 30 - May 16
An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. A riotous ride, complete with audience participation, the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee causes audiences to fall in love, both with the show itself and its “perspicacious,” “jocular,” and “effervescent” spellers. Music by William Finn, book by Rachel Sheinkin. Directed by Jay Bixler.
We are casting as the playwright intended with young adults playing the spellers and older adults playing Rona, the Vice Principal and Mitch.
Those auditioning for the show will cast based on several criteria
(1) singing ability
(2) improvisational skill
