Preparing for a Successful College Audition

Thomas Goodheart and Brenda Iglesias

For over 25 years, Thomas Goodheart has been a dedicated and accomplished voice teacher. He is on the voice faculty at Binghamton University and has taught at the Purchase College Conservatory of Music. His current and former students have sung with opera companies throughout the world including the Metropolitan Opera, Paris Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Dallas Opera and the Chicago Lyric Opera. His students have been invited to elite training programs such as the San Francisco-Merola Opera Program, Santa Fe Opera, Wolftrap Opera and the Houston Grand Opera Studio and have been finalists or winners in numerous national and international voice competitions including the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition and Operalia. As a performer, he has sung over 50 leading roles in opera and oratorio with companies throughout the U.S. and appeared at venues including Carnegie Hall and David Geffen Hall. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in music from the Manhattan School of Music.

 

Brenda Iglesias has performed as a soloist across Mexico, the Czech Republic, and the United States in venues such as the Palacio de Bellas Artes, Teatro Degollado, Liechtenstein Palace, and Cincinnati Music Hall. Her repertoire ranges from Baroque to contemporary, with leading contralto and mezzo-soprano roles in both opera and concert works. She has sung with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Opera, Orquesta Sinfónica Carlos Chávez, and the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de México, among others. A leading expert on Latin American art song, she has won prizes in the Carlo Morelli and Alltech Vocal Competitions, and was recently a semifinalist in the Lyndon Woodside Oratorio-Solo Competition. Dr. Iglesias is also a dedicated educator and is in demand as a voice teacher, Spanish coach, and clinician. She holds Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati.
