Second Round

Saturday, May 24 – Sunday, May 25

  • 10:00 am – 1:30 pm and 4:30 – 8:00 pm

  • All Competition rooms are located on the 2nd Floor. Check your account for your room assignment and audition time.

 

SHEET MUSIC

  • You only need one copy of your music for the accompanist; judges do not need a copy of your sheet music.

  • Original music is not required but is accepted.

  • Make sure the copied music you bring for the accompanist is in a three-ringed binder.

  • Absolutely no loose copies of music.

  • Do not use sheet protectors.

  • Ipads or other electronic devices are not allowed for the sheet music.

  • Make sure copies are legible and clearly marked.

 

Format and Details

  • Only ONE song selection is required for the Second Round; you have approximately 6 minutes of performance time.

  • You can sing the same selection from the First Round or choose a new selection.

  • You may bring your own accompanist or use the one provided, but there will be no time to practice with the accompanist beforehand.

  • Practice rooms will be available, but these rooms do not include pianos.

  • Semiformal daytime audition attire is appropriate.

  • Approximately 600 singers participate in the Second Round:

    • 350 High School Divisions

    • 200 University Divisions

    • 150 Young Artist/Emerging Professional Divisions

  • Depending on the size of the division, approximately 14-40 singers from each division will advance to the Semifinal Round.

  • This is an open competition; parents, family, and others may sit in on the competition, space permitting.

  • Winners will be announced at the Dessert Reception on Sunday, May 25 at 9:00-10:00 pm in Chicago Ballroom 8 on the 4th floor. A list will also be posted online later that night.

 

SEMIFINAL ROUND

Monday, May 26

  • All Divisions
    • 9:30 am – 1:30 pm
    • Room Locations TBA

Format and Details

  • Singers perform ONE song selection of their choice in its entirety.
  • Repertoire can be used from previous rounds.
  • Semiformal daytime audition attire is appropriate.
  • The top 5-10 singers in each division will advance to the Final Round.
  • Winners will be notified via email and a list will be posted near the Convention Registration Desk as soon as possible after the round is complete.
  • This is an open competition; parents, family, and others may sit in on the competition, space permitting.
  • The list of Winners will be posted 30 minutes after the conclusion of each division at the Convention Registration desk on the 4th Floor and online at www.csmusic.info/winners.
 

FINAL ROUND AND AWARDS

Monday, May 26

  • 3:00 - 7:00 pm
  • Chicago Ballroom 8 (4th Floor)

Approximate Start Times – The next division will start immediately after the previous division’s final singer.

3:00 – 3:20 pm    Musical Theatre – High School 1 (5 singers)
3:25 – 3:45 pm    Musical Theatre – High School 2 (5 singers)
3:45 – 4:05 pm    Musical Theatre – University/Pre-Professional (5 singers)
4:05 – 4:30 pm    Classical – High School 1 (5 singers)
4:30 – 4:55 pm    Classical – High School 1 (5 singers)
4:55 – 5:20 pm    Classical – University (5 singers)
5:25 – 6:00 pm    Classical – Young Artist/Emerging Professional (5 singers)

6:00 – 6:25 pm    Scholarship Awards
6:30 pm               Announce First, Second, and Third Place in each division
