All High School finalists will be invited to perform at a special recital for college recruiters. This will be an in-person showcase concert event that will be live-streamed to the entire CS Music Community. Date and Location TBA pending COVID protocols.

Judges come from the school you select. Click on each school to learn more about their program and then REGISTER HERE.


*Singers may register for multiple Host Schools, but they must submit a new registration each time.

GENERAL POOL OF JUDGES: Submission Deadline May 1

Judges for the General Pool consist of university faculty and industry professionals. Singers are randomly assigned to judges and will be reviewed by at least two of them. Judging begins March 1 and runs through May 5 (submission deadline May 1).

All qualified singers from both the General Pool and the specific Virtual Host Schools advance to the same online Second Round, May 22 – 28. Singers can do as many First Rounds as they want, but must register separately each time.

After you register…

Submit a Video

Record your audition, add it to YouTube, and link it to your CS Music account. Recording Instructions


Get Reviewed

Virtual Host Schools or the general pool of judges will review your video & give you written feedback.


Advance

Singers receive a score and all qualified participants advance to the Online Second Round.



Online Second Round: May 22 – 28

After you advance to the Second Round, you have until May 22 to record and submit a new audition video.

Your Second Round video will be used for the Final Round if you advance.

  • May 22 Video Submission Deadline
  • The same song can be used for the Second Round, but a new recording must be made.
  • Judges will review and score applicants between May 25 – May 28.
  • The Top 10 from each division advance to the Final Round.
  • Results will be announced online on Friday, May 28.

Live Virtual Final Round: May 29

For the Final Round, your Second Round video will be shown to a new set of judges and the general public!

  • Finalists’ videos are broadcast in a live, virtual Final Round via Zoom with the judges in attendance.
  • The Final Round is open to the public as well.
  • No new videos are submitted.
  • Winners from all divisions, plus Scholarship Awards, will be announced at the live, virtual Competition & Convention Finale at 8 p.m. EST online via Zoom.

High School Summer Showcase

Divisions & Guidelines

Competition Divisions:

*Singers can do both Classical and Musical Theatre divisions, but must register for each division separately.

Classical – High School

  • $1,000 First Place Prize
  • Ages 14-18 as of May 25, 2021
  • Cannot be attending a university program

Musical Theatre – High School

  • $1,000 First Place Prize
  • Ages 14-18 as of May 25, 2021
  • Cannot be attending a university program

Classical – University

  • $1,000 First Place Prize
  • Ages 18-23 as of May 25, 2021
  • No undergraduate or graduate performance degree as of January 1, 2021
  • High school graduate or equivalent

Musical Theatre – University/Pre-Professional

  • $1,500 First Place Prize
  • Age Minimum 18
  • No Age Limit
  • No lead experience on Broadway

Classical – Emerging Professional

  • $2,500 First Place Prize
  • Age minimum 22
  • No age limit
  • Recommended to have a degree in vocal-related field or significant vocal training
  • No principal roles with A or B level companies

Repertoire Guidelines

Classical Divisions

  • Singers should choose art songs or arias at a level appropriate to their vocal development.
  • Art songs or Arias are accepted.
  • Repertoire can be in any language.

Musical Theatre Divisions

  • Selections can come from Broadway, off-Broadway, and revival shows.
  • Both mix/belt and legit style singing are accepted and judged equally.
  • Singers should be able to demonstrate strong acting abilities as appropriate to the literature.

Recording Guidelines

First Round

    • Each singer will record ONE selection of his or her choice it its entirety for the First Round.

Second Round

    • Singers are required to record a new audition video for the Second Round that includes ONE selection.
    • The same song can be used for the Second Round, but a new recording must be made.

Final Round

    • For the Final Round, a new set of judges will watch the same Second Round video audition.

General Video Guidelines:

    • TECHNICAL TIPS:
      • PLEASE do not use external microphones.
      • Try to get as close-up as possible on video recordings.
      • Try to frame the shot from the waist up, with not too much empty space above the head in frame.
      • Also try to raise the video source closer to eye level so that the judges can see you more face to face, rather than looking up at you.
      • Film in landscape/horizontal frame.
      • Record ONE selection in its entirety.
    • At the beginning of your recording, slate by stating:
      • Your first and last name
      • The event you are auditioning for
      • The current date
      • The name of piece you will be performing and the composer’s name
