Stanford Felix – Voice Teacher & Vocal Coach
Stanford Felix brings over three decades of professional experience as a performer, educator, and vocal technician to his private voice studio. With a Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice Performance from the University of Kansas, a Master of Music in Voice Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theater and Voice, Stanford combines rigorous academic training with real-world artistry.
As a professional opera singer (bass-baritone), Stanford has performed leading roles including Scarpia (Tosca), Tonio (Pagliacci), Falstaff (Flagstaff), Figaro (Marriage of Figaro), and many others, and has been featured in numerous oratorio, musical theater, and concert works. His university teaching career spans institutions including the University of Minnesota (2021-2022), Emporia State University (2006-2011), the University of Kansas (2003-2006), and Texas A&M University-Kingsville (2001-2003). He also founded and was the Executive Director for two opera companies: the Minnesota Concert Opera (2011-2017) and Kansas Concert Opera (2007-2010).
Stanford's teaching centers primarily on the Bel Canto (classical) style and Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) techniques, providing students with a solid technical foundation while encouraging them to explore repertoire that motivates and inspires them. He is the author of "Beautiful Singing: A Singer's Guide to Improving the Voice" (Perfect Pitch Press, 2020), a comprehensive resource that serves as the primary text for his students and is available at beautifulsinging.org.
In addition to his classical training, Stanford completed recording school and apprenticed as a recording engineer in New York City, giving him unique insight into vocal production, recording techniques, and the demands of modern music-making. He is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and continues to perform and record as a composer, producer, and recording artist.
Stanford's students benefit from his holistic approach to vocal development—one that integrates mind-body awareness, resonance, breath control, language, and physical connection. He tracks technical progress weekly and matches students with repertoire based on their readiness, pitch accuracy, and music theory understanding. Most students stay with him for at least a year, a testament to his effective and supportive teaching methods.
Whether you're a beginner discovering your voice or an advanced singer refining your craft, Stanford Felix offers expert guidance rooted in decades of performance, pedagogy, and a deep passion for beautiful singing.
