Bio

Jennifer Burks, Soprano, is a Texas native but has called Boulder, CO home since 2015. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Arkansas (2015). Most recently Jennifer has performed as a Bel Canto Artist for Fort Collins Opera, a Fellowship Artist with Boulder Bach Festival, and debuted as The Princess in Boulder Opera’s production of Montsalvatge’s Puss in Boots in February 2020. As a soloist she has competed in numerous competitions, including NATS, the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and the Lois Alba Aria Competition. In 2018 Jennifer was a finalist in the Denver Lyric Opera Guild competition and was awarded Honorable Mention and in 2020, she won 2nd place in the World Bach Competition in the Community Category.

Jennifer’s opera experience began as a member of the Boulder Symphony Chorus from 2015-2018. As a chorus member she performed in La Boheme, La Traviata, Le Nozze di Figaro as well as Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Nights Dream. In 2018, Jennifer debuted her first opera role as First Spirit in Mozart’s The Magic Flute with the Arapahoe Philharmonic Orchestra in Denver, CO. Outside of opera, Jennifer has explored oratorio and has sung with some of Boulder’s elite group the Boulder Bach Festival.

This fall (2021), Jennifer will begin pursuing her Master’s in Vocal Pedagogy at the New England Conservatory of Music studying with Lisa Saffer. She plans to continue competing in competitions and is excited to pursue new opportunities in opera and oratorio!

Jennifer began her own private teaching studio, Jen Burks Studio, in 2016 and has developed a passion for teaching voices of all ages to sing with the most healthy and beautiful technique they can. She loves teaching new and experienced singers in all genres. Jennifer’s specialty is audition prep! She really enjoys the process of putting together repertoire, building confidence under pressure, and seeing her students succeed.
