Are you interested in competitions, auditions or universities in Europe? Or in rounding our your development with a temporary European experience?
For singers in transition, I offer voice instruction, repertoire and style coaching and performance classes with regular studio concerts in Vienna, Austria. Also, contacts to excellent pianist-coaches for various repertoire and languages, and experiencing the operatic and concert life in Vienna provide unique opportunities to develop professionally and artistically.
I tailor my instruction to the goals and current capabilities of each student, and love handing singers tools they can use to shape their artistic expression. It is my conviction that solid vocal technique ultimately must serve as a reliable tool to support performing impulses. In addition to lessons, performance classes develop expressive competence through acting techniques specifically for music theater, and allow you to offer convincing and realistic performances and auditions.
During my 30 years on stage, I sang over 50 leading roles on European opera stages. Following ten years enjoying the lyric heroines from Violetta to Mimi, my voice developed toward the jugendlich-dramatic Fach, and I discovered a special affinity for the complex characters of verismo and German Expressionist operas. I spent many wonderful years with Salome, Tosca, Ariadne, Marie, Elsa, Senta - and their friends.
I completed my Masters in Vocal Pedagogy and Performance at the University of Colorado, studying with Berton Coffin and Barbara Doscher, served as Visiting Professor of Voice for three years at the University of Wisconsin, and am frequently on the teaching faculty of AIMS in Graz. For undergraduate students spending a semester or year in Europe, I accept students enrolled in the (excellent) IES Abroad-Vienna program.
