Bio

Dr. Logan Contreras is Assistant Professor of Music and Voice Division Co-Coordinator at the University of Northern Colorado, teaching Applied Voice, French and German diction, and art song literature. Dr. Contreras is also a certified teaching instructor for the Mindfulness Institute for Emerging Adults. A strong advocate for inclusivity and diversity in music, Dr. Contreras is the creator of the Kassia Database, a database of art song by women composers in addition to being the co-coordinator for the Institute for Composer Diversity Art Song Works Database. She has presented this research at universities throughout the United States, at the West-Central NATS Regional Conference (2019 and 2021), the NATS National Conference (2020 and 2022), and the National Opera Association (NOA) Annual Conference/NATS Winter Workshop (2025). Dr. Contreras will be presenting new research on mindfulness and meditation for the voice studio this summer at the International Congress of Voice Teachers (ICVT) in Toronto, Canada, which was previewed at the 2024 Colorado-Wyoming NATS Chapter Conference.

As a performer, Dr. Contreras has presented recitals of World War I and II era lieder, music of women’s suffrage, Romantic and 20th Century folk music, and Benjamin Britten’s dramatic cantata, Phaedra. She has portrayed dynamic characters on the operatic stage, such as Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus) the Witch (Hänsel und Gretel), Eduige (Rodelinda), Mother (Amahl and the Night Visitors), Mrs. Herring (Albert Herring), Carmen (Carmen), Alma March (Little Women), and Dorabella (Cosi fan tutté). Concert work includes appearances with the Kansas City Symphony, Central City Opera, Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra, chamber works with the Caroga Lake Music Festival, Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb with the Pueblo Choral Society, Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzer with the Midwest Chamber Ensemble, Mozart’s Requiem and Regina Coeli with Musica Sacra of Kansas City, selections as Octavian from Der Rosenkavalier with the UMKC Conservatory Orchestra, and Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass at the Donald and Karen Bailey Choral Arts Festival. Other stage performance includes appearances with the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, Steamboat Opera, Lawrence Opera Theater, and Loveland Opera Theatre.

Dr. Contreras holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance and from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory, and Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Northern Colorado. She has previously taught at Colorado State University Pueblo, the Conservatory at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri.
