Description
The Symphonic Choir was founded in the Autumn of 1998 under the musical direction of Romano Gandolfi and tackles the lyric-symphonic, chamber and polyphonic repertoire, ranging from the Baroque to the twentieth century. At its first concert, on 8 October 1998, it achieved great success with the public and critics with Verdi's Quattro pezzi sacri conducted by Riccardo Chailly and then tackled some of the most challenging pieces, such as Haydn's Die Jahreszeiten under the direction of Ádám Fischer and Haydn's Die Schöpfung, conducted by Claus Peter Flor; with the latter, the Choir also performed Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem and Beethoven's traditional Ninth. Upon the death of Maestro Gandolfi in 2007, the direction of the Choir was taken over until 2018 by Maestro Erina Gambarini, who had been called by Gandolfi himself as his assistant when he founded the Choir in 1998.
