Description

The Opéra Orchester national Montpellier Occitanie unites ninety-three musicians and a choir of thirty-one artists.

Valérie Chevalier has been its general director since December 29, 2013.

Michael Schønwandt has been the principal conductor of the Opéra Orchester national Montpellier since September 2015 until 2021.

Faithful to its outreach mission, the Orchestra and the Choirs perform at the Opéra Comédie and the Opéra Berlioz as well as in the Region.

A lyrical and symphonic program is presented each year. In order to sensitize new audiences to classical music, the Opera Orchestra also programs concerts "outside the walls": media libraries, houses for all, schools, universities, prisons ... and welcomes thousands of pupils and students during dress rehearsals and concerts.

The wide repertoire of the Orchestra and Choir ranges from the baroque to the music of the XX th century. During chamber music concerts, musicians also perform in smaller groups, quartets, quintets, etc.

Without Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, Région Occitanie Pyrénées Méditerranée, the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs and the City of Montpellier, the Opera Orchestra could not create this social link which promotes citizenship through music.
