Description

The Théâtre du Capitole has had a choir since its foundation in the middle of the 18th century. The choir is now made up of 45 permanent artists, to which additional choristers are joined according to the needs of the productions.

Since September 2009, the Capitol Choir has been under the direction of Alfonso Caiani, after having been directed by Pierre Iodice from 1991 to 2003 and by Patrick Marie Aubert from 2003 to 2009.

The choir provides the opera season for the Théâtre du Capitole and also performs at concerts in the seasons of the Théâtre and the Orchester national du Capitole. In recent seasons, he has explored a vast repertoire under the direction of his conductor Alfonso Caiani: he notably performs sacred choral pieces by Bruckner and Verdi, the Grands Motets by Rameau and Mondonville (with the baroque orchestra Les Passions), the cantata Saint-Nicolas by Britten (with the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra), the Gloria by Vivaldi, the Christmas Carols (with the Orchester du Capitole) as well as pieces by Barber and Bernstein.
