Description

Transgressive Theatre-Opera, one of Chicago’s premiere opera storefront opera companies, is accepting submissions for the role of Fabrizio in The Light In The Piazza, to be streamed on 2/12 and 2/14/2021. Everything will be rehearsed and filmed remotely, and the singers may come from anywhere in the world.

THERE IS PAY.

Fabrizio teeters between ingenue and young leading man in type, must have an extremely believable Italian accent while speaking in English and singing in Italian, (a native Italian speaker could be ideal), be an excellent actor, capable of both comedy and pathos, and have easy command of the low B-flat and the high B. We expect the role to be sung as an opera singer would sing it, without any attempt at musical theatre or rock stylings, as was the case in the original Broadway production. A young lirico-spinto voice could be idea, although a more lyrical voice with a solid top could carry the day.

We are an opera company which prides itself on the casting of the singing actors that bring our exciting performances to a new type of operagoer with a fresh set of expectations. We are working to stay afloat in these interesting times, and the Rights we have obtained do not allow for the hiring of AEA performers, although Equity Candidates and AGMA artists will happily be considered.

If you are not a singer with considerable classical training and experience, please do not submit. If your resume does not indicate that you have performed opera and/or Golden Age musicals, please do not submit, you cannot be considered at this time.
