Opera Nova

Opera Nova is the only amateur organisation in the area to promote and stage opera and aim to provide professional quality entertainment accessible to a wide audience.

The group was founded in the late 1960s by John Morton and Iris Lemare, Opera Nova carries a proud legacy of achievement in promoting opera in the area. It has over the years performed a wide range of operas ranging from La Traviata, Falstaff and The Marriage of Figaro, to works by 20th century composers such as Britten and Menotti.

Over recent years Opera Nova has developed a "semi-staged" format, performing excerpts from operas with simple costumes and choreography which allows us to include a variety of favourite works and readily adapt the production to different venues around the region.
