Description
It all began in 1998. At that time, the Lower Austrian state exhibition entitled "rebellious and conformist: women's lives in Austria" captivated tens of thousands of visitors. After the exhibition ended, opera was performed for the first time in 1999. In collaboration with the "Graz Garden Opera Festival", the Graz production was adapted for Kirchstetten so that it could be performed in the castle's ballroom - the Maulpertsch Hall. A few concerts rounded off the program and a new festival was born.
The fundamental positioning is still based on this concept today: to perform opera in a small space close to the audience. "Belcanto up close" - under this motto, the 2015 Classic Festival sharpened its opera positioning with a focus on composers of Italian bel canto. In addition, we offer performance opportunities to young, as yet unknown, but also to renowned musicians and artists.
Two concert theme blocks round off the festival. The OpenAir "Classics under the Stars" and the cycle "Chamber Music: Heard and Told" offer classical music at a high level. This area is complemented by a children's opera production. Rock, classical and light music mix in the second cycle, the herbstKLANG weinviertel, to which the second large OpenAir "Symphonic Rock" is also assigned in terms of content.
Since its inception, the festival has been supported and organized with great passion by the voluntary association “Kultur im Schloss Kirchstetten”. This voluntary commitment is the foundation of the festival.
