School of Theatre and Music at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) seeks to fill a tenure-track (open rank) full-time position as a member of the music faculty and Director of Choral Activities.
The successful candidate will be a superb pedagogue, educator, and conductor, willing and able to work with colleagues to sustain a visionary and robust curriculum aligned with 21st-century trends and demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness in their programming and pedagogy. Duties include overseeing and directing all facets of the UIC Choirs, coordination of vocal instruction and associate voice faculty, serving as Music Director and Conductor of the University Choir, and participating in departmental and interdisciplinary committees. Additional teaching responsibilities will be assigned based on the candidate’s expertise, interests, and/or departmental need. The successful candidate will be expected to recruit music degree students and music minors, as well as non-major students for ensembles, develop strong relationships with regional music educators, and contribute to the university's general education program. Appointment begins August 16, 2021. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications: A terminal degree in Music (DMA or PhD) or Music Education (DMA, EdD, or PhD) earned by date of hire and an extensive background in choral music. Candidates with commensurate professional experience may be considered. Also required are at least two years of documented experience in collegiate music settings as well as publications and/or a record of achievement or potential for leadership in the field. For tenure consideration, a sustained record of excellence in teaching, an active agenda of research/creative activity, and accomplishments in service in support of the unit, university, and the profession are required.
