The Moores School of Music at the University of Houston is pleased to invite applications for a renewable non-tenure-track faculty position as Professor of Practice and Artistic Director of the Moores Opera Center, for Fall 2022 appointment.

The applicants for this position should be prepared to:

Assume the duties of principal producer for Moores Opera Center activities, including logistical planning, selection of productions for the season, casting, and assignation of duties for assistants as required.

Plan season of four major productions, usually including one musical theater production.

Coordinate with and supervise the Production Manager of the Moores Opera Center on tasks including scheduling, marketing and publicity, identifying and managing contractors and interacting with donors.

Mentor DMA candidates as needed (either stage directing or opera conducting).

Consult with voice faculty as appropriate.

Candidates with a specialization in stage directing will direct at least three of the four annual productions; other duties will include teaching acting or directing courses as assigned and overseeing teaching assistants in the program.

Candidates with a specialization in conducting will conduct at least three of the four productions; other duties will include coordinating role coaching with the music staff and serving as principal repertoire coach.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to the future of opera as an art form that reaches as wide and diverse an audience as possible. Ideal candidates will also show an aptitude for innovative approaches to teaching and mentoring students, a high level of community involvement, and a national or international performing or directing career with a track record of recognition and awards.
