This full-time, 9-month administrator with faculty status position is non-tenure track and begins in August 2022.

The incumbent is a working artist-scholar whose duties will include directing a show choir and a community choir. The director is also primarily responsible for student recruitment for choir activities. This is a new position for the College and represents a unique opportunity for an artist-director to build a program from the ground up. The right applicant will thrive in a highly collaborative program area with other faculty in Fine Arts & Dance. Commitment to anti-racist and equity-focused practices is expected.

TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Chair of Arts & Letters, the incumbent teaches three (3) undergraduate courses per year, including Show Choir and liberal studies courses as needed (e.g., FYS, Introduction to Musical Styles, Art Appreciation, etc.); mentors choral students; serves as artistic director for the College’s choirs; coordinates all aspects of choir productions and tours; maintains a practice-led research agenda; and assists in course assessment and curricular development in music.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES: The Director leads the recruitment and retention of Show Choir students, working closely with admissions and marketing offices on campus. The Director, based on regular choral activities assessment and reviews — as well as annual enrollment projections — works with the Division Chair in developing budget program proposals. The Director will develop all choral activity policies and work in collaboration with the Division Chair to develop/update the Choral Activities Student Handbook, the area’s pages on the Wilson website, and in other administrative duties as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A master’s degree in music or closely related field; at least two years’ experience organizing and directing a choir and/or musical theatre performances. Valid driver's license and background check clearance required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous show choir experience is ideal, and experience in curricular decolonization is highly desired.
