Description
The Department of Mass Communications, Visual and Performing Arts at Delaware State University seeks highly qualified applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position as Director of Choral Activities, to begin in August of 2022. The Choral Director reports to the Music Program Director and to the Department Chair. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic musician with a strong and effective commitment to music education and conducting, who shows a high potential for recruiting, building, and maintaining a nationally recognized choir program. We seek candidates with demonstrated ability to contribute to a faculty dedicated to creating a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment for a diverse student population.
Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The successful candidate will organize, direct, and administer a comprehensive university choral program including Concert Choir and Chamber Choir. Additional duties will include recruiting and retaining excellent music majors and the development of community partnerships. Some courses may be assigned based on the strengths and experiences of the candidate. These courses may include Conducting, Vocal Techniques, Vocal/Choral Literature, and applied voice lessons.
The successful candidate will be required to pursue appropriate creative and scholarly work in the field of choral music and/or music education (ex. publications, presentations, guest conducting/adjudication). The candidate should establish and maintain a high and positive profile in university, community, public schools, and the region.
The successful candidate will possess the ability to conduct and teach vocal pedagogy performance practices at a high level. This candidate will also demonstrate extensive and varied knowledge of repertoire and outstanding musicianship. Keyboard/choral accompanying skills are preferred.
