San Diego State University: Assistant Professor of Voice and Vocal Arts Area Coordinator. Full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Position appointment begins August 2022.

The School of Music and Dance (SM&D) seeks a dynamic educator and artist to be responsible for teaching applied voice lessons at the undergraduate and at the graduate levels. Commensurate with candidate’s experience, classroom responsibilities may include teaching courses within the vocal arts area such as vocal pedagogy, song literature, and diction. Active performing, creative activity, and scholarly contributions to the field at the regional and national levels, which bring visibility to the faculty member and to SDSU’s School of Music and Dance is expected. It is also expected that the candidate will coordinate the Vocal Arts Area; supervise vocal entrance auditions, juries, and voice recital committees; and engage in a robust campaign of recruitment activities in conjunction with the Music Education, Choral, and Opera Areas.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* The highest artistic and pedagogical abilities, and evidence of excellence in studio and classroom teaching at the university level

* Ability to work collegially and collaboratively with SM&D faculty

* Ability to teach courses in a range of topics including vocal pedagogy, song literature, and diction

* Master of Music degree with evidence of extensive professional experience and accomplishment in the field of vocal performance

* Exceptional communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with Music Education, Choral, and Opera Areas

* Demonstrated track record of creative and professional activity at both the regional and national levels

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Doctorate in music is preferred

* Tenor/Baritone/Bass preferred; other voice-types with expertise teaching low voices encouraged to apply

* Accomplishments in performing and/or training across diverse musical styles and performance traditions
