UNC-Pembroke is seeking a Lecturer of Voice. This position teaches voice students in the Musical Theatre, and the commercial/jazz areas (BM in Musical Theatre, and BA in Music Business). It also may teach some students seeking minors (Musical Theatre, Jazz Studies, Music, etc.).
Required Qualifications: Earned graduate degree in music (DM or DMA preferred) or equivalent professional experience. Evidence of successful college or professional teaching experience. Ability to teach musical theatre, contemporary/commercial, and classical styles, and working knowledge of those repertoires. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desired Qualifications: Piano skills. Professional experience as a performer, especially in musical theatre. Industry connections. Stage direction experience. In addition, the proven ability to work effectively with students and colleagues from a variety of backgrounds and cultures is highly valued.
Responsibilities: Teach voice (singing) to undergraduate students, especially Musical Theatre majors and students pursuing the Jazz/Commercial track of the BA in Music with Music Industry Emphasis program. Maintain an active professional profile and keep up to date with stylistic and pedagogical developments in the field. Participate in appropriate departmental and university-wide activities. Additional duties depend on the candidate’s expertise and department needs but could include teaching music courses such as vocal diction, the direction of the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, or production responsibilities (as vocal coach, accompanist, music director, or stage director, for example) for the department’s offerings.
