Northwestern State University is seeking an individual to serve as Department Chair of Music, 12-month, Tenure Track Faculty, effective July 1, 2022.

Reporting to the Director of the School of Creative and Performing Arts, the Chair of the Music Department administers the music academic programs within the Dear School of Creative and Performing Arts. Administrative responsibilities include coordinating curricular development; strategic planning; faculty and staff supervision/evaluation; departmental budgeting; class schedule planning; graduate faculty membership; department advocacy; outreach

and recruitment; alumni relations; resource management; facility oversight; and service activities while demonstrating a commitment to excellence in teaching. The Chair should understand the needs of an undergraduate and graduate program in music/music education and will bring a collaborative approach and a commitment to honest and transparent communication.

Required qualifications are a terminal degree PhD or DMA in music or related field (ABD will be considered), prior administrative and teaching experience at the university level, and a record of artistic and/or scholarly endeavors that meets the University's standards for an Associate or Full Professor of the Department of Music. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong record of administrative leadership, teaching experience, and the ability to lead a program through a rapidly changing 21st century. The successful candidate will bring appreciation and respect for the unique contributions of members of the music department and be committed to fostering diversity, inclusion, and intercultural and interdisciplinary collaboration. Teaching responsibilities will be based on the candidate's areas of expertise and should complement the current programs at the university.

Rank and salary are commensurate with experience and qualifications.
