Cadillac Footlighters

Cadillac Footlighters will be holding auditions for Mamma Mia, Jan 23, 3:30-6:30 and Jan 24, 6-8. Auditions will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 221 Harris St., Cadillac.

Auditions for Mamma Mia are open for anyone age 15 and older.

There will be three main elements to your audition.

Choreography. Our choreographer, Jenn Reagan, will teach groups of auditioners a brief section of choreography, and then the actors will be asked to perform this choreography in groups. Don’t worry! This will be fairly simple choreography and we are just looking at people’s ability to move and dance. Mamma Mia is a dance heavy show, and we anticipate having members of the ensemble that are set aside as the main dance company, featured in some of the dancing scenes. Are you a “dancing queen?” We can use you!

The second element in the auditions is singing. Each person who is auditioning for a role or ensemble is asked to come prepared with a piece of music to perform in their audition. We will have a pianist present if you would like to bring sheet music. However, you may also perform acappella if you prefer. This should be about 32 measures (as much as we’d love to hear full songs from everyone, time restrictions mean we will have to limit how long you sing.) So please prepare 32 measures that you think best show your voice. Along with the song you prepare (whatever you choose not from the show), our music director will also be teaching a brief excerpt from songs from the show for each role and then asking you to sing it for us after going over it with the music director. For instance, if you are auditioning for Donna or the Dynamos, we will take all those auditioning for those roles on stage to teach approximately 16-20 bars of one of their songs, and then each person will be asked to sing it solo for the music director. Please check the link attached that shows which songs will be sung for which roles.

Reading/Acting from the script is the final element to your audition. Actors will be given opportunities to be on stage and act/read portions of the script for the various roles. We have attached pdf files of these “sides” from the script, so you can review them before auditions if you would like.
