Description

Lawrence University is looking for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Music - Vocal Coach.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Coach voice students on operatic, recital, and audition repertoire; prepare students musically for the opera productions, including student rehearsal pianists; teach classes in diction and vocal literature, depending on background, interest, and experience. Additional responsibilities include teaching in Lawrence’s flagship First Year Studies program and all service-related activities associated with a tenure-track position including student advising, participation in committee assignments, and other forms of institutional service. Must contribute to our institutional commitment to become a truly antiracist conservatory.

We are looking for a highly collaborative, creative colleague who is passionate about providing our students with an exceptional musical foundation, as well as preparing them for success in today’s rapidly changing world. Excellent keyboard skills (including sight reading) and facility in a wide range of musical styles from baroque to contemporary, spanning from recitative to CCM. Ability to bring our students to the highest levels of artistic and musical mastery in a nurturing, student centered environment. Background in community engagement and outreach desirable. Extensive knowledge of operatic and concert repertoire is expected. Appropriate terminal degree or equivalent experience. A record of successful collegiate teaching and recruiting preferred. Although this is a Conservatory position, strong support of the ideals and goals of a broad liberal arts education is a must.

Application materials should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching philosophy, a statement on your experience related to addressing issues of diversity and inclusion in an academic setting and ways you could contribute to these efforts at Lawrence, recordings of recent live performances, academic transcripts, and any additional material that demonstrates your qualifications for the position. We would like all documents submitted digitally as either Word documents or PDF files, and all video submitted as links to external sites. Recording links should be submitted as one document. Applicants should also submit names and contact information for two references who we can contact at a later time in the search.
