The University of Connecticut (UConn) is pleased to invite applications for a faculty position in the Department of Music at the rank of Assistant Professor in Residence for a Vocal Coach/Conductor and Staff Accompanist. It is a nine-month, full-time position in the Department of Music beginning Fall 2022. The Department seeks a dynamic collaborative pianist to serve as a full-time vocal coach, coordinator and director of opera, and staff accompanist. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional keyboard skills, fluency in a broad range of vocal styles, expertise in vocal diction, music directing/conducting experience in opera, and a commitment to repertoire from diverse cultures and underrepresented groups.
Primary responsibilities will typically include coaching voice students and serving as a vocal coach, coordinator of the opera program, and music director for mainstage productions of opera. Additional responsibilities could include teaching collaborative piano; teaching undergraduate courses for voice majors; assisting with special projects involving graduate and undergraduate voice majors; accompanying voice auditions; recitals and studio class performances for voice majors; and administrative service as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master of Music degree and past professional activity as a music director is required. Teaching experience at the university level and/or in young artist programs as well as a strong background in vocal accompanying and excellent sight-reading skills are required. Conducting experience; finalists will be expected to conduct an opera chorus with an ensemble as part of the interview process.
