Defiance College

Defiance College has an immediate opening for an energetic and creative music professional to serve as the Assistant Director of Music Programs. Defiance College Music Programs serve students through a variety of vocal and instrumental ensembles and offers private lessons in voice, band and orchestral instruments, guitar, bass, and percussion.

Reporting to the Director of Music Programs through Student Affairs, the individual will have direct responsibility for conducting, leading, and delivering instrumental music performance experiences for students, including the Defiance College marching band, pep band, and other ensembles. The Assistant Director will be heavily involved in new student recruitment, will be responsible for building ensembles and will teach at least three-credit hours of content-based music courses per academic year. Other duties include the management sheet music inventory and assisting with the inventory control of instrumental music equipment.

The successful candidate for this a full-time, 10-month administrative appointment (August 1 to May 31) must have a Master’s degree with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field. The individual must be capable of leading, rehearsing, and conducting individuals and musical ensembles for public performances, be able to travel on occasion, and be able to adjust to a flexible work schedule, which will include some evenings and some weekends.
