The Bronx Opera Company (BxO) announces hybrid auditions for our May 2022 production of:

Mozart’s LA CLEMENZA DI TITO

(full performances May 14, 15, 21, & 22; abridged student matinee between May 19 and/or 20)

WE PLAN TO PRESENT THIS PRODUCTION LIVE, ON STAGE

This production will be presented in English translation, fully staged, with costumes, orchestra, and chorus. No audition fee is charged, and each principal artist will receive an honorarium of $500; covers and chorus will receive $300. We plan to double-cast all roles.

Please note that all participants in this production must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the start of rehearsals and that for the safety of all involved, no performer, crew, or staff member will be allowed to participate who is not fully vaccinated.

LA CLEMENZA DI TITO will be directed by Benjamin Spierman.

For your information, the broad-strokes production schedule is as follows (some dates may change slightly):

• Music rehearsals: 10–12 dates during January 25–February 10 & March 15–April 7.

• Staging rehearsals: weeknights & weekends April 8–April 29.

• Sitzproben, full run-thrus, tech & dress rehearsals: April 30–May 13.

• Performances May 14 & May 15 (full performances); May 19 and/or 20 (abridged student matinee(s), performed by covers); May 21 & May 22 (full performances).

All rehearsals take place on weekday evenings and weekends, primarily in north Bronx locations. Rehearsals will be scheduled after cast conflicts are known. All performances take place at the Lovinger Theatre at Lehman College, in the Bronx.

Auditions will primarily be held virtually. We expect to have some live auditions, by invitation, in mid-January.

As the form indicates, we’re looking for one recording of an aria from CLEMENZA (or something in a similar style that shows your agility in florid music), and an English-language selection. Your English-language selection can be a CLEMENZA aria in translation, or it can be another aria in English. Please note that our translation of CLEMENZA is currently being created, therefore please do not stress out over learning a CLEMENZA aria in an existing English version. Please submit your form by Friday, December 24, 2021.

(Note: Much florid singing is required for Tito, Vitellia, and Sesto.)
