Washington National Cathedral Choir seeks to appoint a tenor staff singer, beginning September 2022.

Auditions will be held in Washington, D.C. in the second half of June, by invitation only. Interested candidates should submit a resume which includes both professional and educational experience, and two audio or video recordings of contrasting works to musicoffice@cathedral.org.

Selected applicants will then be contacted for a live audition. In addition to a high level of vocal proficiency, applicants need to be excellent sight readers and adept at singing across a number of musical styles.

About the Cathedral Choir:

Washington National Cathedral Choir is comprised of 9 professional musicians who sing alto/countertenor, tenor and bass with treble choristers from St. Alban’s School and National Cathedral School. When the choristers are on academic break, the Cathedral Choir is augmented by professional sopranos.

The Cathedral Choir sings six calls per week during the academic year, in addition to all major feasts, concerts, recordings, and tours. Calls are paid at $120, and staff singers can expect to earn over $30,000 per year. The regular weekly schedule is:

Sunday: 10am call for 11:15am Eucharist; 2:45pm call for 4pm Evensong

Monday: 4:45pm call for 5:30pm Evensong

Tuesday: 4:45pm call for 5:30pm Evensong

Wednesday: 4:45pm call for 5:30pm Evensong

Thursday: 4:45pm call for 5:30pm Evensong
