Audition Announcement for St. Croix Valley Opera’s Figaro for Kids

Audition Requirements:
1. Enter a link (Youtube or equivalent service) to a video of yourself singing a 32 bar cut from an aria by Rossini, Donizetti, or Bellini in English, or if in Italian…
2. Enter a link (Youtube or equivalent service) to a video of yourself singing an additional 32 bars from an opera or musical theatre piece in English, preferably of the “patter song” variety, with rapid text.
All excerpts should be “up-tempo” if possible.
Callbacks: Callbacks will be live in person a week later. If you are called back you will be notified when and where to report and will also be required to perform a monologue selection from the FFK script of your choice from this google drive folder: https://bit.ly/SCVOFFK2022AuditionSamples. You will be expected to be memorized and to act out your chosen monologue selection from the options in the google drive folder above geared to an audience made up of children.
Age Requirement: 18 and up.
What: Be a part of Figaro for Kids (FFK), an outreach program for elementary-aged students in the St. Croix Valley. Roles to be cast are the Narrator, Figaro (baritone), the Count Almaviva (tenor), Rosina (mezzo-soprano), and Bartolo (non-singing female role by the Narrator, actors encouraged to audition). All roles will be sung and spoken in English.
Location of Performance(s): St. Croix Valley Opera will be showcasing a 20–25-minute sampling of “Figaro for Kids” in the fall of 2022 for St. Croix Valley 3rd-5th (or even 6th) grade students at their schools, followed by evening performances at The Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson, WI the weekend of the in-school performances. Children and their parents would be encouraged to see the whole 60-minute production that weekend at The Phipps together.
More Information: June 13 - 17 we will workshop the 20 - 25 minute scene for the elementary schools at the Summer Vocal Institue (SVI) at The Phipps Center for the Performing Arts. You will be awarded a scholarship to attend the SVI, and paid a modest stipend for the rehearsals and performances in the fall. You will then be given the full script to learn during the rest of the summer and we will meet again after Opera on the River to put together the rest of the opera for full performances at The Phipps Center for the Arts in October as well as the 20-25 minute workshop tour in local elementary schools that week.
Compensation: Scholarship to attend the SVI ($600 value) and $800. 50% of the $800 will be paid at the first rehearsal in the fall and the remaining 50% paid at the last performance in October.
