Description

Auditions for the 2021-22 Cleveland Orchestra Chorus season, as well as for Blossom Festival Christmas participation are now being scheduled by appointment only for Tuesday, August 17, Friday, August 20, and Sunday, August 29. Additional dates may be added as needed.

Please note that auditionees interested only in the Blossom Festival Chorus in the summer of 2022 should please wait to audition until the spring.

Auditions will be held at First Baptist Church, 3630 Fairmount Blvd, Cleveland. An accompanist will be provided. Solos do NOT need to be memorized, but must have piano accompaniment (no a cappella singing).

Requirements for Cleveland Orchestra Chorus:

Sing two prepared solo pieces, each approximately two minutes in length.

Repertoire may be art song, aria, or Broadway. At least one of the two prepared solos must be in French, German, or Italian.

Prepare an excerpt from the third movement of the Brahms German Requiem, which may be found under the AUDITIONS tab at www.cochorus.com. (Study materials and a pdf of the sheet music are available.)

The directors may assess your ability to sight-read and guide you through some simple vocal exercises so they can hear your range as part of the audition.

VACCINATION POLICY We continue to take guidance from medical experts at The Cleveland Clinic addressing the unique risks of singing in close physical proximity to others. In order to support our safe return to the stage, chorus singers are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before auditioning. Proof of vaccination (typically a photo or pdf file) will be requested at the time of scheduling your audition appointment.

The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus season is tentatively scheduled to begin September 12 and run through May 29. Members of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus are required to commit to rehearsals every Monday evening from 7pm - 10pm and frequent Sunday evening rehearsals, in addition to all scheduled concerts. The 21-22 season for the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus will include performances of the Brahms German requiem, Zemlinski Psalms, and Verdi’s Otello.

Christmas Holiday Concert rehearsals are tentatively scheduled to begin on November 1, and also rehearse every Monday from 7pm-10pm, in addition to December 7 and 8. Although there 12 concerts, singers are not required to sing every concert, but will be assigned to a minimum number yet to be set (usually around 6)

Both choruses typically rehearse in Beachwood (venues for the season have yet to be confirmed due to ongoing pandemic considerations). Only concert week rehearsals and performances take place at Severance Hall.
