Description
The Department of Fine and Performing Arts (DFPA) seeks an Adjunct Professor of Music (Vocal/Choir). The ideal candidate demonstrates an ability to teach music (vocal, choral) as well as develop and participate in programs designed to enhance the experience of the music concentration through excellent teaching and creative curriculum development.
Teaching duties include; general music courses and applied music with specific knowledge of courses including vocal literature and diction repertoire such as, and not limited to: Italian, German, French, and Spanish; courses in Solfeggio, African American (Black), and/or diasporic music and traditions, classical, contemporary music, choral, university choir, vocal, chamber music and other genres. Provides instruction and mentoring; engages in scholarship and/or professional creative work. In addition to teaching duty responsibilities, the candidate could possibly also serve as the Assistant Choir Director of the University Choir (TBD). These duties could entail conducting rehearsals, concerts, seminars, recitals, singing, arranging, and performances in conjunction with the University Choir Director, overseeing the maintenance of the choral music library, and choir uniforms for choral and university events, and recruiting for both the music concentration area and choirs. Other duties will include maintaining regular office hours. The successful candidate might be responsible for co-conducting the University Choir, Madrigal/Chamber Singers Ensemble or others as well as teaching private voice lessons. We seek an individual with a strong commitment to interdisciplinary teaching as well as an ability to work with diverse student populations with varying degrees and types of musical experience. Providing guidance and mentoring with students for internships, apprenticeships, and careers in the professional music and performing arts industry.
Education
Requires the equivalent of a four-year degree and D.Mus.A., Ph.D., or Ed.D. preferred or M. M. in Voice or Choral Music (or related) is required.
