The Theatre Department invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in Musical Theatre. Applicants should possess a strong background in music theatre, music directing & accompaniment, and a knowledge of the music theatre canon as well as a passion for developing new work. This position will serve as Musical Director for the Theatre Department’s musical performances. Musical Director duties include serving as a Vocal Coach-Accompanist in Musical Theatre courses and rehearsals and may include serving as Conductor for productions. The person appointed to this position will also teach in the following curricular areas: History of Musical Theatre, Musical Theater Repertoire and Performance Practice, and other department-related General Education courses.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* A terminal degree (MFA, MM, PhD, etc) in Musical Theatre, or closely related field.
* Combined equivalent of three years full-time teaching at the college or university level.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Demonstrated experience in accompanying/teaching/coaching with strong sight-reading skills.
* A comprehensive knowledge of repertoire and styles of music theatre. (including pop, rock, country, and rap/spoken word)
* Demonstrated skill in conducting instrumentalists and vocalists.
* Demonstrated professional experience as a Music Director for musical theatre.
* Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and representation in both classroom and production environments.
