The Houston Grand Opera Chorus is a professional group of diverse persons of all professions and backgrounds. These auditions are for HGO’s upcoming winter production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning opera Silent Night by Kevin Puts and Mark Campbell, conducted by Kensho Watanabe. Choristers rehearse weekday evenings and weekends for each repertory period. For Silent Night, a new chorister could earn approximately $2,500.00.
Please note that the rehearsal period runs December 7th–December 21st, 2025 and January 3rd–January 21st, 2026 with performances on January 23rd, January 25th, January 31st, February 4th, and February 8th, 2026.
Auditions should include two arias of contrasting style, tempo, in original language, and by memory. Operatic repertoire is preferred, but standard oratorio selections will be accepted. Sight reading may be requested. Singers
are required to bring their own sheet music in the correct key. HGO will provide a pianist. Candidates may be asked to sing only one aria.
