College of the Holy Cross seeks a Musical Director.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative team at College of Holy Cross. We are a private Jesuit liberal arts college in Worcester, Massachusetts. As part of the Department of Theatre & Dance and reporting to the Chair(s) the Musical Director will provide piano accompaniment for the Theatre and Music Performance programs, assisting with the instruction of student instrumentalists and vocalists during the academic year. The Musical Director will oversee aspects of music (including directing the pit band) for the annual musical production in the Department of Theatre & Dance. The hours for the position include significant time outside of teaching and accompanying required to prepare for the rehearsals, performances, juries and other duties.

This is a 40 hours/week salaried position for 10 months and serves as the Musical Director for the Theater Department. This includes:

* Accompanying auditions in September

* Playing for rehearsals approximately 15 hours a week from mid-October through early December and during a one-week intensive retreat for the Musical in mid-January

* Conducting the Pit Band during rehearsals and performances

* Mentoring and instructing student musicians and vocalists

* Collaborating with the Director

* Play piano for the equivalent of 3 classes per year, typically "Voice in Acting" and the "Singing for the Broadway Stage 1 & 2" classes

* Provide weekly individual vocal coaching and instruction for the aforementioned classes

Required Skills

* M.F.A, M.M. D.M.A., PhD. in Music or B.F.A./B.M in Music with equivalent experience

* Advanced experience and training in playing and performing on a professional level in all musical styles

* Significant background coaching and or teaching student musicians and vocalists

* Expertise to learn music quickly and perform at a high level with minimal rehearsal
