Description

The Muhlenberg College Music Department seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor who is an outstanding choral conductor to direct the Muhlenberg College Choir and the Muhlenberg Chamber Choir for the 2022-2023 academic year. Candidates will also be asked to teach applied voice lessons as part of their teaching load. The successful candidate will demonstrate creativity in diverse programming, excellence in choral pedagogy, and a commitment to inclusive teaching of music majors and non-major liberal arts students. Responsibilities will also include coordinating the choral and vocal areas.

The search committee seeks a candidate with a Doctorate or Master’s degree in Choral Conducting and a strong interest and knowledge of inclusive and diverse repertoires (repertoire by composers from historically underrepresented groups). Candidates with a Master’s Degree in Voice or Music Education with a certificate in Choral Conducting as well as commensurate experience will also be considered. Two years of experience teaching at the collegiate or secondary level is required. As part of the College’s sequential approach for the health and safety of our campus community, proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required upon hire (absent an approved medical or religious exemption). Successful completion of background checks is also required.

The candidate will collaborate in planning concerts and other activities related to the function and development of choral ensembles at the college. The Muhlenberg College Choir and Chamber Choir typically perform one major concert per semester and participate in other projects, such as the annual Candlelight Carols service in December, Parent’s Weekend, or special music department initiatives like the recent Festival of African-American Poetry and Song.

To receive full consideration, candidates should upload the following items as a single PDF to Muhlenberg College’s Workday Career Portal no later than June 10, 2022: 1) a curriculum vitae with links (e.g. YouTube) to 10-15 minutes of video from both performance and rehearsal (where possible, please utilize clips where the camera captures the conductor from the front (from the ensemble's perspective); 2) programs from three performances; 3) statement of teaching philosophy; 4) a statement that explains how their teaching will contribute to the Muhlenberg’s efforts to become a more diverse and inclusive community; and 5) names and contact information for three professional references.
