The Department of Music in the College of Liberal Arts of Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position in music (voice) beginning August 2022. The successful candidate will be responsible for recruiting and maintaining a high-quality studio of undergraduate voice students, teaching across all music majors including BM in Music Performance, BM in Music Education, BM in Music Therapy, and BA in Music. Based on the candidate’s strengths, other teaching duties may include Diction (Italian, French, German, English), Vocal Pedagogy, Class Voice for Instrumentalists, Class Voice for Music Therapy students, Opera Performance, or a choral ensemble. The candidate will assist colleagues in helping to shape the music curriculum to meet twenty-first century demands, NASM, and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, of which SRU is a part. Consistent with the expectations of all SRU faculty, the selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels, or beyond.

Minimum Qualifications

A doctorate in Voice Performance and/or Pedagogy (or closely related field) is required. ABD applicants must have the doctoral degree in hand by August 2022. The candidate must demonstrate a developed vocal pedagogy, commitment to mentoring student development, and strong ability as a performer. The candidate’s demonstrated commitment to the education of diverse populations must be clear and vivid in the applicant’s materials. The candidate should possess a collaborative and collegial disposition and have a demonstrable commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging, and community outreach. Finalists must participate in an interview process that includes a teaching demonstration and a vocal performance.
