Ithaca College Teaching Job
Description
Situated in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of NY, the Ithaca College School of Music, Theatre, and Dance is seeking a tenure-eligible, full-time assistant professor of voice to begin in August of 2024. We are excited to welcome a new colleague to engage in delivering our recently updated voice performance curriculum.
Primary responsibilities will include teaching applied voice to undergraduate voice students, in the majors of vocal performance, musical theatre, vocal jazz, music education, Bachelor of Music with an outside field, bachelor of arts, and sound recording technology. Other duties may include teaching an array of voice-related courses, including vocal pedagogy, vocal repertoire, and performance skills.
Qualifications:
We are seeking a vocal pedagogue holding a master’s degree with a proven track record of success in teaching applied singing to college-aged singers. The dynamic Ithaca College voice faculty value healthy singing, excellent technique, inclusive repertoire, idiomatic pronunciation, and communicative performance, and the ideal candidate will teach toward these same values. Special consideration will be given to candidates with a minimum of 3 years of college teaching beyond the graduate assistantship level. The successful candidate will have an ongoing track record of scholarly/pedagogical activity. Specialization of these activities is open; preference will be given to those areas not already represented with current faculty, such as voice science, vocal repertoire of historically excluded composers, and contemporary/commercial styles. Special consideration will be given to tenors and sopranos.
For full consideration applicants must submit a CV, cover letter that includes their teaching philosophy and a statement outlining their contributions to creating an inclusive and equitable vocal studio environment. Candidates who advance to later stages of the search process will be requested to submit digital video files containing 10 minutes of recent performances and a 20-minute teaching video. For full consideration, please apply by October 10, 2023.
