Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo

The Music Department in the College of Liberal Arts at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applications for a full-time (academic year or 12-month) Department Chair who will provide innovative leadership with appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, to begin September 12, 2022. The position is tenure track with the possibility for tenure to be granted at the time of appointment.

This position carries both teaching and administrative duties. The administrative assignment is for an initial period of three years, renewable at the Dean’s discretion. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

DMA or PhD in a music performance or music academic area; five or more years of exceptional university teaching; demonstrated experience in effective administrative and strategic leadership within academia; distinguished record of accomplishment commensurate with the rank of a tenured Associate or Full Professor in performance, creative activity, and/or scholarly achievement; and evidence of supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as the ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings is required. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required.
