McLennan Community College is seeking Assistant Professor, Music - Voice (Tenure Eligible).
GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Teach applied voice and coordinate private voice instruction, teach diction classes in Italian, German, French, and English. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: academic advising for students, maintaining office hours, participating in college committees, promoting and supporting the department's mission and goals, leading extra-curricular activities, participating in professional development activities, and working across departments to develop student communication and problem-solving skills. Faculty are expected to accept courses as assigned which could include face-to-face and non-traditional venues, such as evening, weekend, dual credit, blended, and/or online courses. This position reports to the Division Chair, Visual & Performing Arts. NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Knowledge of: 1. Voice pedagogy. 2. Teaching to various learning styles. 3. Appropriate vocal repertoire for first and second year voice students. 4. Principles in Italian, French, German, and English diction. Ability to: 5. Collaborate in recruitment/retention of vocal students. 6. Maintain a successful and competitive voice studio. 7. Prepare voice majors for successful transfer into the junior level of a university. 8. Demonstrate piano skills useful in a voice lesson. 9. Perform solo and collaborative faculty performances. 10. Develop working relationships with area music faculty, teachers, and other music professionals. 11. Use appropriate technology. 12. Advise students. 13. Promote and support extra-curricular activities. 14. Work both, within and across departmental lines. 15. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Master’s degree in Music (Voice emphasis) from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Teaching experience at the college/university level.
