Shaw University seeks FT Faculty: Asst. or Assoc. Prof-Music/Choir Director.

Reporting to the VP, Academic Affairs, the Choir Director will be active in service to the Music Department and to the University and will teach courses as appropriate for this position. The Choir Director will be responsible for the management and direction of Shaw University’s University Choir and other Choral Ensembles. The Choir Director will provide overall leadership of the choir staff and their responsibilities including overseeing choral arranging, performances, program development, and fund raising and provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular choral activities. During the Academic Year, the Choir Director will coordinate choir activities with other University units as needed and arrange special concerts.

Education and/or Work Experience:

• Terminal degree in Music with an emphasis in choral conducting preferred. Master’s degree in Music or Music

• Education is minimally required OR combination of experience and education.

• Candidate must have a proven record of directing and managing a choir at the college level, experience with

fund raising and recruitment, and the ability to collaborate with others in the ongoing development of the

music curriculum.

• The ideal candidate will be able to foster and forge relationships with secondary, post-collegiate, and

community choral educators to advance choral instruction in the region.
