CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
TO THE INTERNATIONAL OPERA STUDIO AT HANOVER STATE OPERA
FOR THE SEASONS 2022/23 & 2023/24
Since the 2019/20 season, Hanover State Opera and its Artistic Director Laura Berman have focused especially on the quality of singers in their company. In the context of this orientation, the International Opera Studio of the Hanover State Opera was newly founded in 2021. It allows five talented singers to benefit from a wide-ranging training programme for the duration of two seasons.
General Director: Francesco Greco
Casting Director: Christian Carlstedt
We are currently looking for singers in the vocal categories of
• mezzo-soprano,
• baritone
• and bass
to join the Opera Studio at the beginning of the 2022/23 season.
Our Aim:
The Opera Studio is intended to provide you with a bridge between your training and your professional singing career. The focus lies above all on advancing your individual creative personality and promoting the healthy development of your voice. This is why our options include audition training and individual career counselling.
Education and Training:
Hanover State Opera offers you a comprehensive teaching programme to give you the optimal support for your first steps into the professional world of opera singing. This includes master classes as well as regular classes with renowned guest teachers such as Edith Wiens, Brigitte Fassbaender, Neil Shicoff, Barbara Frittoli and John Norris. The training is complemented by workshops, singing and movement coaching, speech and acting training, German lessons and more.
Performing Opportunities:
As a member of the International Opera Studio, you are an integral part of our opera ensemble and will be cast in Hanover State Opera’s productions, including performances on the Main Stage. This is a way for you to gain important working experience with prominent directors and conductors and to benefit from performing with more experienced company members and international guest soloists. There is also the possibility that you may be accepted into the State Opera’s ensemble upon your completion of the studio apprenticeship.
In addition, there are productions that exclusively feature studio members, like Denis & Katya and humanoid in the 2021/22 season.
Concerts in a wide range of formats and at many different venues will also give you an opportunity to present yourself in front of an audience with the works and parts that you have worked on within the Opera Studio.
Application:
You may apply for the International Opera Studio’s programme if you are still under 30 years of age on 31 December 2021 (i.e. if you were born in 1992 or later).
Your application documents should include
• A short CV with a photo, sent as a PDF-file
• Links to audio or video recordings of two stylistically different arias (please do not attach any files, but only use links to platforms like Vimeo, YouTube or similar).
Please send your application to opernstudio@staatstheater-hannover.de.
The deadline for applications for the 2022/23 season is 30 November 2021. Auditions will take place between 13 and 15 December at Hanover State Opera.
We are looking forward to your application!
