South Dakota School of Mines & Technology invites applications for a full time, tenure-track position with a focus in Choral Music at the Assistant Professor rank in a unique ensemble-centered musical environment designed for science and engineering students at a respected STEM university. Responsibilities include teaching and conducting three or more choral ensembles, advanced special topics courses in the area of the candidate’s expertise, and other music courses as assigned. Additional expectations include creative and scholarly endeavor, professional service, recruiting and advising students, and the development of specific areas of the music program as needed. This is a 9-month, tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of August, 2022.

An earned doctorate degree in music is required. The successful candidate will possess a record of effective teaching as a choir director and will demonstrate proven rehearsal techniques, pedagogical knowledge, and excellent communication skills. Candidates should have a record of successful program building, demonstrated abilities in recruiting and retaining students, and strong administrative skills. A thorough knowledge of current developments in music education and performance is preferred. Teaching experience at the university level is preferred. Above all, we seek someone with a commitment to, and enthusiasm for, quality music education for highly motivated non-music majors.
