The University of Mobile invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Music (Voice). Rank and salary are commensurate with education and experience. The candidate will exemplify a strong Christian faith and exhibit a commitment to the University’s mission and core values. The assistant professor will be expected to:

1 Teach applied voice to undergraduate and graduate students with an emphasis on classical and crossover style, including musical theatre and contemporary commercial music (CCM);

2 Teach other undergraduate and graduate courses in the Alabama School of the Arts, beginning Fall 2022; possible areas of instruction include: diction, pedagogy, song literature;

3 If the candidate has choral conducting experience, they may have the opportunity to lead a choral ensemble;

4 Participate in weekly departmental graduate and undergraduate voice masterclasses;

5 Perform in university concerts and programs, and in outside engagements in the community;

6 Advise and mentor students;

7 Serve on University committees;

8 Post and keep office hours each academic period;

9 Attend all University faculty meetings and required workshops;

10 Attend all department and college/school faculty meetings;

11 Assist with the recruitment, registration, and orientation of students;

12 Submit syllabi, credit hour forms, textbook orders, and grades according to scheduled due dates;

13 Attend and support University activities when possible;

14 Attend mandated University activities, including but not limited to, commencement ceremonies;

15 Accept additional responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of the Alabama School of the Arts and/or the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Required Education/Experience: A doctoral degree in music from a regionally accredited institution is required. Evidence of success as a performing artist and applied teacher at the collegiate level required. Candidates should have a demonstrated an ongoing commitment to teaching and performing. Choral conducting experience is a plus, but not required. A review of candidates will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
