Boston Conservatory at Berklee invites applications for the position of Studio Voice Faculty in Musical Theater Voice with a preference for persons with a background in musical theater vocal pedagogy. The ideal candidate for this position will be a motivated, creative professional who is committed to excellence in the education of singers; has a demonstrated record of recruitment and successful teaching of musical theater singers both in the studio as well as in the classroom; and will actively contribute to a campus community that promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding. This is a 9-month full-time faculty position with renewable contract; initial appointment to begin September 1, 2022. Compensation and rank are commensurate with professional experience.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
• Responsible for teaching a full-time voice studio (up to 18 hours) of musical theater majors at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
• Guide students in the development of a sustainable technique and healthy and appropriate vocal production
• Guide students in developing strategies for maintaining vocal health including teaching vocal warm ups, creating a practice plan, and assigning appropriate repertoire
• Reinforce strong performance skills
• Advise and guide students to resources that assist in their learning, development, and wellness
• Prepare and present semesterly studio recitals
• Participate in assessment of juries
• Possibility of teaching courses in the Vocal Pedagogy program
• Maintain a presence on campus, attending on-campus performances and participating in faculty recitals and other faculty events
• Participate in Voice Department and Theater Divisional faculty meetings and committees
• Service to the Conservatory as assigned by the Chair
Required Qualifications:
• Master's Degree or professional experience as teacher and/or performer equivalent to the master’s degree
• Demonstrated experience and success teaching musical theater voice in an accredited higher education institution or in a professional setting (3 years minimum)
• A demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in approach to teaching/learning and in professional activities
• Demonstrated success teaching students of diverse backgrounds at the undergraduate and graduate levels
• A desire to work within a diverse faculty and student body
