Description
The Conservatory of Music at the University of the Pacific announces a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of Associate Professor in applied voice and as a coach/conductor. We seek a dynamic and innovative teacher/performer whose background, professional performing accomplishments, and pedagogy will attract and retain students to the wide variety of program offerings at Pacific’s Conservatory. Excellent applied lesson teaching is a vital responsibility. The expectation is that this position will also serve as conductor/coach in Pacific’s innovative ensembles program and teach students interested in an array of vocal styles including singer/songwriters, jazz singers, popular music singers, musical theatre, and classical singers. Audio and/or video recordings may be requested at a later date.
Essential Functions or Duties:
Proven expertise as an innovative vocal teacher.
Proven expertise as a coach/conductor.
The ability to attract, retain, and inspire diverse students in broad array of musical genres.
An ability to develop, mentor, and teach forward-thinking 21st-century musicians at levels appropriate to their major.
Demonstrated ability as a performer and collaborator as a musician, conductor, soloist, and in other professional and/or educational settings.
Willingness and ability to expand students’ musical experiences and understandings beyond those of the traditional western and classical canons.
Being a part of a highly motivated and invested faculty that puts student learning at the forefront of the university’s mission.
Minimum Qualifications
An earned doctorate, or the equivalent professional experience in the field of vocal performance, a sustained record of achievement as a teacher and as a conductor/vocal coach.
