Description

Univ of Michigan seeking LEO Lecturer 1- Dept of Voice.

Duties:

Successful applicants will direct one Main Stage (with orchestra) or Second Stage (with chamber orchestra or piano) production per term, while simultaneously leading any of the comprehensive opera workshop classes that are part of a prescribed sequence of courses for both graduates and undergraduates. In close consultation with the Chair, successful applicants will develop and teach additional courses or seminars in related areas, based on individual skills and experience coupled with departmental strategy. Applicants can also expect to participate in Voice area meetings.

Qualifications:

We seek an experienced stage director who is interested in contributing to a vibrant vocal arts program dedicated to the overall development of the emerging classical vocalist in the 21st century, in which opera is an integral component. The ideal candidate will have prior academic experience in the systematic teaching of stage-centric skills to singers, a broad and thorough knowledge of operatic repertoire appropriate to both developing and pre-professional artists, a sustained professional career as a director, and a history of administrative experience. A documented history of collaboration and collegiality with co-workers and/or faculty members is crucial. The person in question should have knowledge of the operatic field as it exists today, and a vision for a methodology in the acquisition of theatrical skills that prepare students for the professional stage and that closely aligns with the overall mission of the U-M School of Music, Theatre & Dance and the U-M Department of Voice.

Note: To be considered for this position, candidates must upload as one document a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, including evidence of professional and teaching activity, and a list of at least three current references with contact information, by May 10th.
